FORMER aide to Najib Razak, Isham Jalil, has said he will give the police his statement after uploading a video of the former prime minister’s RM42 million SRC International Sdn Bhd trial earlier this week.
However, Isham did not disclose when he will go to the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman to do so.
“I was informed as of yesterday evening that there were no police reports against me in regards to the video I posted online. Therefore, the police have been instructed to investigate without a report.
“I will give my cooperation to the police as I understand they are just doing their jobs. I had the chance working with them when I was part of the government. I will be going to Bukit Aman next week to give my statement,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Isham again defended himself, saying he did not commit any crime by uploading video of the trial.
“How can the video be considered ‘classified’ when anyone can buy it from the court at the price of RM10.
“Although there is a declaration form for you to not distribute or share the transcript in any form, the form itself is not the law.
“Anyone can sign the form but it carries no weight.”
The police have opened investigations over the transmission of a video clip from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording of the proceedings of Najib’s trial that was uploaded on Facebook.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said investigation has started following a report at the Batu 9 police station in Cheras.
“The investigation was initiated under Section 203A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act,” he said in a statement last night.
On Saturday, a two-minute and 12-second video titled “The fifth day Najib’s trial” featured a recording of Najib’s lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah questioning a witness went viral on social media.
The video uploaded by Isham has been viewed more than 227,000 times and shared by 3,700 Facebook accounts, garnering more than 1,900 comments. – April 21, 2019
