CHRISTIAN civil servants in the peninsula can now take unrecorded leave for Good Friday, said the Public Service Department director-general.

Borhan Dolah, in a signed circular today, said Putrajaya has agreed to the move, to allow all Christian public servants to observe one of the religion’s most important holidays.

Good Friday is already a public holiday in Sabah and Sarawak.

No figure was provided as to how many Christians are in the civil service, which is dominated by Malays.

Good Friday, which commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and Easter Sunday, which marks Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, are the most important dates in the Christian calendar. – April 18, 2019.
