POLICE have set up a task force to investigate the disappearance of former councillor Peter Chong Fook Meng and also to establish if the case is linked to the disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh.

Koh was abducted on February 13 along Jalan SS4B/10 in Petaling Jaya while Chong, 54, was last seen leaving his house in Persiaran Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur, on April 5. He was supposedly meeting an Indonesian friend for a drink.

Chong’s son, Darryl, lodged a police report on his disappearance on April 8 after all attempts to contact him failed.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Deputy Commissioner Amar Singh told The Malaysian Insight a task force has been set up involving Selangor police, as Koh was abducted in that state. He said Federal police in Bukit Aman were also involved in the investigations.

“Yes, we have set up a task force to investigate this case. We are working with Selangor police and Bukit Aman,” said Amar.

At the moment, Chong’s case is classified as a missing person’s report.

Sources said police have interviewed Darryl but he was reticent. The investigating officer will be meeting the son again today.

Police want to know what Chong was up to in the days and months leading up to his disappearance. It was reported that Chong went missing after he was confronted by a stranger who remarked he was seen at Koh’s vigil.

Chong’s disappearance has been spread widely on social media since he had posted about the encounter with a stranger on March 31, who warned him to be careful.

Chong had also tweeted that he had attended Koh’s prayer vigil.

Koh, 62, was abducted after a group of well-trained men stopped his silver Honda Accord along Jalan SS4B/10.

CCTV footage of Koh’s abduction went viral on social media, showing a professionally executed abduction involving more than 10 men in three black SUVs.

Chong, who was a councillor with PJ City Council, served for one term from 2014 to 2015. He was also a former aide to Subang MP R. Sivarasa from PKR. – April 10, 2017.
