DAP lawmakers want MCA Selangor to come clean on a one-acre plot of land in Kampung Cempaka, Petaling Jaya, which was allegedly bought below market price.
Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua said MCA should either return the land to the state government or pay the market value of the land.
“MCA had applied for the land in 2006 and got the approval from the state government in 2007.
“MCA then purchased the land for RM52,000 in 2008, which they got for RM1 per square foot (psf). The land is worth at least more than RM400psf,” Pua said at a press conference in Taman Cempaka today.
Pua said before the purchase, the land had been a water retention area to prevent floods.
“MCA is now requesting the Petaling Jaya City Council for a change of land use to commercial, so that they can build a building in the area.
“If the land gets commercial status, then the price will increase.
“If MCA have an iota of integrity they should return the land to the state or have the decency to pay the current value of the land, which is around RM18 million,” he said.
Damansara Utara assemblyman Yeo Bee Yin said she found out about MCA’s plans to convert the land to commercial status early this year and became curious as to how the party managed to acquire the site.
“I started checking and got the information by using Selangor’s Freedom of Information Enactment to get the documents from the state government.
“What we want to know is, how did they get the land at below the market price.”
When contacted, former Petaling Jaya Utara MP Chew Mei Fun said she did not apply for the land.
“I’m not the one who had applied for the land. Check with the former state exco councillor,” she said, declining to elaborate further. – September 14, 2017.
