FORMER police chief Khalid Abu Bakar refused to be drawn into the inquiry findings of the two missing activists, saying all questions should be directed to the current Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
Khalid was the IGP when Pastor Raymond Koh and Perlis Hope founder Amri Che Mat were abducted more than two years.
The Malaysian Human Rights Commission that conducted a public inquiry into their disappearance, today revealed it was the Special Branch that had abducted both activists.
“Ask the IGP. I am no longer the IGP,” Khalid told The Malaysian Insight today.
According to the Royal Malaysian Police website, Fuzi was the Special Branch director from 2015-2017 during the time Koh and Amri were abducted.
Koh was abducted on February 13, 2017 in Petaling Jaya while Amri was taken on November 24, 2016 in Perlis.
Khalid and several Special Branch officers had testified in the year-long inquiry at the Suhakam headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
In a press conference before the inquiry, Khalid had said police raided a house in Kampung Weng Dalam, Kedah of a drug trafficking suspect where photos believed to be of Koh’s house and his car was found.
The raid was conducted after a suspect had been killed in a shootout with police in Kampung Weng Dalam, Kedah, on June 17.
“We believe this group is connected to the abduction of Pastor Koh,” Khalid had said.
In January last year, however, Fuzi announced that they had charged a suspect in connection with Koh’s abduction.
The suspect, Lam Chang Nam, was charged on January 15 with kidnapping Koh. Fuzi had also said police were still looking for seven others who were still at large.
“He is a suspect in the kidnapping of Pastor Raymond Koh early last year along with seven more individuals still at large,” Fuzi had said.
The Malaysian Insight has contacted the police and is waiting for a response. – April 3, 2019
