FIREFIGHTER Muhammad Adib Mohd Kasim was not the person between the fire engine and the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) van, said investigation officer Assistant Superintendent Lew Keng Joe.
Lew told a coroner’s court today that based on the video recording he saw, the person who was between the vehicles was witness No. 6 – Mohd. Hazim Mohd Rahimi, who is also a firefighter.
“Hazim admitted this when his statement was recorded,” said Lew.
“Therefore, it is not true to say that Adib was the person in the video,” Lew said when asked by conducting officer Faten Hadni Khairuddin in front of coroner Rofiah Mohamad.
Lew is testifying in an inquest to determine what happened to Adib during the riots at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Seafield, Subang Jaya, last year.
He told the inquest that police have yet to arrest the person responsible for attacking the fire engine during the riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple.
Lew said based on the video recording, the police have not yet able to identify the person who broke the front view mirror of the fire engine.
“We are still investigating. We have yet to identify the person and efforts to track them are ongoing.
“You can see in the video but you can’t identify them because it is not clear,” Lew added.
“We tried to enhance the image, but the result was not satisfactory,” he said, adding that the video was recorded using a handphone. – April 3, 2019.
