Pakatan is anti-Islam for ‘allowing gay parade’, says Ismail Sabri

PERMITTING an LGBT “parade” is proof that the new government is anti-Islam, said Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“They legitimised LGBT and this hurts Muslims. Even in the Penal Code, homosexuality is forbidden. In Islam, it is very clear same sex relationships are forbidden. But yet, this ‘parade’ was allowed.

“Even the cabinet has discussed which toilets they (the LGBT) should use. These issues never came up before,” he said in Parliament lobby today.

He said there were also a growing number of people insulting Islam on social media since Pakatan Harapan took over last year.

“Issues about insulting the Prophet are happening openly every day. Maybe it’s because these perpetrators feel they will be protected (by the new government),” said the Bera MP.

It is unclear what “LGBT parade” that Ismail Sabri is accusing the new government of allowing.

But an International Women’s Day march in Kuala Lumpur last month turned into a LGBT rights rally when several activists shouted slogans and made speeches calling or recognition of the community.

After the march, organisers were questioned by the police, while Islamic Affairs Minister Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa had criticised the organisers for allowing the event to be used to defend LGBT rights.

But Barisan Nasional and PAS have used the event to push the narrative that PH encouraged LGBT activities. – April 1, 2019.
