THE pattern of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s injuries does not indicate he was physically assaulted, the coroner’s court heard today.
Forensic expert Dr Mohd Shah Mahmood said if Adib had been assaulted at the Seafield temple riots, he would have sustained 70% of injuries to the head, chest and abdomen.
“In a study that has been conducted for five years, a victim of an assault would sustain 70% of injuries to the head, chest and abdomen.
“Another study also shows similar result, where 67% of an (bodily) assault will cause injuries to the facial area and chest.
“In Adib’s case, the pattern of injuries sustained by Adib does not match the signs of psychical assault.
“There is a journal published to support our medical assessment,” Shah said.
Shah also said three injuries starting from the scratch on the back waist, broken ribs and bruise on the right chest happened in just six seconds.
“Based on the video we saw and the assessment we made, my team opined that the first phase of the injury, second and third phase happened in six seconds maximum. Three seconds is the fastest.
“It is compatible with the short time frame based on the video that we saw a few days ago that showed the fire rescue tender (FRT) reversing and slamming the EMRS vehicle,” he said.
The inquest continues at 3pm with another witness. – April 1, 2019.
