PAS and Umno are waging a “jihad” (holy war) to overthrow a government that is anti-Malay and anti-Islam, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Umno vice-president said Pakatan Harapan was under the thumb of non-Muslim party DAP, which has all the say because it holds the most seats among the coalition partners.
“No country is governed by the minority. This is why I say our struggle is a jihad. It is a holy war to overthrow an anti-Islamic government,” he said at an event last night in Sabak Bernam to gather support for Barisan Nasional in Rantau,” he said.
“When they took control of the government, the Islamic, Malay agenda was set aside because DAP is in charge.”
He did not, however, say how Malay-Muslim interests have been neglected by the government.
Last night’s gathering was organised by the Sabak Bernam divisions of Umno and PAS and featured PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang as the main speaker.
Ismail, who is also the Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chairman, said he is confident that the PAS-Umno pact would not only seize back power in Selangor, it would also win Putrajaya.
He pointed out that 34 of the 56 seats in the Selangor legislative assembly are Malay-majority seats, as are 126 parliamentary seats, more than half the total number of seats, on the peninsula.
“If we avoid multi-cornered contests, we can win 32 more seats.
“When we rule again, Sabah and Sarawak will join us.
“If we can distribute the seats fairly, I believe we can win in Selangor. We have calculated that the pact can also win in other states.
“With this partnership, there is no reason why we cannot win back Putrajaya,” he said.
But while their chances look good on paper, Ismail said the pact needs the blessing of the grassroots supporters.
“It is very important that this partnership has the approval of the grassroots. The top leadership has already okayed it.
“Let us set aside everything that has happened in the past and look forward instead.” – April 1, 2019.
