THE protest of the three opposition MPs who quit as Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members is clear, even if they have not formally tendered their resignations, opposition leader Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

He said their intentions were clear in protesting the PAC being led by a government MP instead of an opposition lawmaker, as promised by Pakatan Harapan in its election manifesto.

“I am not sure, I haven’t checked or asked. But their intentions are clear,” Ismail Sabri said in the parliament lobby when asked if the three who quit the PAC on Monday – Dr Noraini Ahmad (Parit Sulong-BN), Ahmad Hamzah (Jasin-BN), and Takiyuddin Hassan (Kota Baru-PAS) – had submitted their resignation letters.

Beluran MP Ronald Kiandee remains PAC chairman even after joining government party Bersatu earlier this month.

He was appointed to the post last year while he still was with Umno.

After criticism, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said the government will look for a new PAC chairman.

Ismail Sabri said a few PH politicians have voiced their disagreement on Kiandee remaining the PAC chairman.

Among them was PAC member Nurul Izzah Anwar, who quit her post last Friday. – March 28, 2019.
