ALL parties should wait for the conclusion of an inquest into the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim and not jump to any conclusions based on witness statements, said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin said while many statements have been given by witnesses, he urged the public to be patient for the inquest’s final report.
“We can’t make assumptions until the inquest and coroner who is conducting the investigation has completed her work and made a decision,” he said.
“So, we can’t pre-empt (the decision). Don’t jump the gun or make assumptions.”
Muhyiddin said that “a professional report and decision” would be made once the inquest winds up.
“(We don’t want) rumours or assumptions, which is why we are doing this and not basing it on the initial results, which people could dispute,” he said.
The ongoing inquest at the coroner’s court in Shah Alam is determining Adib’s cause of death.
Adib was part of a response team from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department station that had, on November 27, last year, gone to the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple area after a call that cars had been set on fire was received.
He suffered injuries during the riots and died at the National Heart Institute on December 17. – March 28, 2019.
