THE white paper on Felda will be tabled in Parliament in two weeks, said Deputy Economic Affairs Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.

The document will reveal, among others, details of the financial scandal that has rocked the government agency, as well as lay out Putrajaya’s plan for settlers.

“For the information of all Yang Berhormat (MPs), the Felda white paper will be presented in the final week of this Dewan Rakyat sitting,” Radzi said in Parliament today.

The white paper was originally meant to be presented last year.

Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said the decision to postpone was made on the advice of the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Felda is one of several government-linked institutions found to be suffering from financial woes due to alleged mismanagement and poor investment decisions.

It was reported that the agency had about RM100 million in cash against RM8.02 billion in borrowings as of June 30 last year.

Steps taken by the government to help Felda include providing RM577 million in special allocation last year, to satisfy outstanding payments and fulfil its obligations to smallholders. – March 28, 2019.
