Cool it with Nurul Izzah ‘cry baby’ remark, Anwar tells Azmin

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has told Azmin Ali to “cool down” after the economic affairs minister’s remarks on Twitter appearing to call Nurul Izzah Anwar a “cry baby” for quitting her post in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

“There are people who want to take their principles and ideas. There are people who are set to defend their positions at all costs. So, take this into consideration,” he told reporters at parliament lobby today.

Yesterday, Nurul Izzah’s resignation from PAC sparked a debate on Twitter among rival factions within PKR.

Nurul Izzah, who is also Permatang Pauh MP, resigned on Friday after Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that new Bersatu MP Ronald Kiandee would remain as PAC chairman.

This contravenes Pakatan Harapan’s election manifesto where it stated that PAC chairman should be an opposition parliamentarian.

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, waded into the issue on Twitter.

“This country needs doers who are prepared to tough it out all the way, not cry babies. Whatever it takes, we must make it work. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen,” he tweeted.

Nurul Izzah’s interview was criticised by lawyer and former PKR MP, N. Surendran, who said it was wrong for her to give such an interview to a Singapore paper when Dr Mahathir’s government was in negotiations with Singapore over several issues.

“Is this acceptable? In the middle of the escalating water agreement and a serious ongoing territorial conflict, a prominent PH MP calls the PM a ‘former dictator who wreaked so much damage’ in an interview to a leading Singapore daily. The timing, platform, and manner is all wrong,” Surendran tweeted.

Since Nurul Izzah’s resignation from PAC, Dr Mahathir has said that a new chairman for the parliamentary committee will be considered. – March 26, 2019

  • On this I support you Anwar !!!! If all are behaving like Azmin in being a boot licker and obedient followers the country will not move or even change track. It is the diversity in thoughts of the politics that makes it strong nd allows freedom of expression to stir further improvement. Those who are stale in thoughts goes no far beyond the boundary of changes and are always resistance to changes. Azmin needs to be rein in. His performance is lack lustre and only talks.

  • Views should be expressed with caution in public. No such thing as anything goes especially if it is undermining a PM, for example.
