DR Mahathir Mohamad said he, too, is disappointed with others, just as how they feel about him over the slow implementation of reforms by the new government.
The prime minister’s statement is in response to former PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar’s remarks on him in her interview with Singapore’s Straits Times.
The Permatang Pauh MP described Dr Mahathir as a former dictator who caused much damage to her family and the nation.
She also said she is “heartbroken” by Pakatan Harapan’s slow delivery of its promised reforms.
Asked about the matter in Alor Star today, Dr Mahathir said he is fine with people being disappointed with him, as he feels the same about others.
“It’s okay that many people are disappointed. I am also disappointed with them,” he said after meeting Kedah civil servants at Wisma Darul Aman.
In the interview, Nurul Izzah also disclosed that this will be her last term as an MP.
Last week, she quit the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) after expressing her disappointment with the prime minister’s stand to allow the chairman’s post to be held by a member of the ruling pact.
Ronald Kiandee was appointed to head PAC when he was with Umno, but he quit the party last December and joined Dr Mahathir’s Bersatu earlier this month.
Following her resignation, Dr Mahathir said the government is looking into replacing Kiandee with an opposition member.
Nurul Izzah’s remarks on the prime minister have led to several politicians rushing to his defence.
PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali tweeted that the nation needs, “doers”, not “crybabies”.
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, of the same party, replied: “When a lady makes a stand, you call her a crybaby? Cheap, very cheap.”
Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, too, backed up Dr Mahathir, calling the 93-year-old leader a workaholic who sacrifices much for the nation. – March 25, 2019.
