AUTHORITIES are monitoring followers of the neo-Nazi punk movement in Malaysia following reports that the group was promoting xenophobia and Nazism in their music, said Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
Fuzi said police have not received any reports on the group, but added that authorities continue to monitor the group, especially through social media.
“It has come out on social media. We are aware of this, but no one has lodged a report or raised this issue (with us),” he told reporters today.
“But (they) are under the surveillance of police.”
Two concerts involving several local neo-Nazi punk groups were cancelled this month – one in Kuala Lumpur slated for April 6, and another in Ipoh which was scheduled for April 13.
The punk fringe group is sometimes also referred to as “hatecore” due to its lyrics containing violence and hatred.
A “skinhead”, which is another punk sub-culture, had lodged a complaint with organisers, saying that the groups were promoting racial and religious hatred against non-Malay communities. – March 25, 2019.
MORE TO COME.
