FAMILY members of the Muhammad Haziq Mohd Tarmizi, 17, who was killed in the Christchurch, New Zealand, twin mosque massacre on March 15, were touched by the support from Malaysians during the a peace gathering in Kuala Lumpur today.
Haziq’s aunt, Zarina Shuib, said she was grateful to be part of the gathering with fellow citizens.
“Indeed, it has been a testing time for our family members in New Zealand, where our brother (Mohd Tarmizi) was injured and our nephew (Haziq) left us forever due to the attack.
“Our family thank Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa for visiting our brother there and to get first-hand information on the situation in Christchurch,” she said as a representative of Haziq’s family during the gathering at Dataran Merdeka.
“Despite this difficult test, we as a family have accepted the fate of Haziq. We support this effort of solidarity for peace and harmony among all Malaysians, irrespective of race and religion,” she said holding back tears.
On Thursday, the Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed that Haziq was among the 50 victims killed in the tragedy in Christchurch.
The victim’s father, Mohd Tarmizi Shuib, 42, was injured during the terrorist attack at the Al Noor mosque and Linwood mosque.
Another two Malaysians, Muhammad Nazril Hisham Omar and Rahimi Ahmad, were also injured. – Bernama, March 23, 2019.
