SOME 300 rally goers attended a peace and solidarity gathering this morning, which was organised to promote unity among Malaysians.
The crowd, mostly clad in white T-shirts, gathered in front of the Sogo shopping mall from 6.30am before marching towards Dataran Merdeka at 8am.
Several Pakatan Harapan leaders, including Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad, Minister in charge of Islamic affairs Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Raja Kamarul Bahrin were present.
The crowd carried Malaysian flags as well as banners promoting peace and solidarity for the victims of the Christchurch terror attack last week.
Among those present was the aunt of Muhammad Haziq Mohd Tarmizi, 17, who was killed in the twin mosque massacre last Friday.
Haziq’s aunt, Zarina Shuib, said she was grateful to be part of the gathering with fellow citizens.
On Thursday, the Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed that Haziq was among the 50 victims killed in the tragedy in Christchurch.
The victim’s father, Mohd Tarmizi Shuib, 42, was injured during the terrorist attack at the Al Noor mosque and Linwood mosque.
Another two Malaysians, Muhammad Nazril Hisham Omar and Rahimi Ahmad, were also injured. – March 23, 2019.
