TWO Malaysians injured in the Christchurch shootings have undergone operations while another is waiting to be sent it for surgery.

Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz, who is in Christchurch with Penang welfare exco Phee Boon Poh, said on his Facebook page today that they had visited the three victims in the hospital.

One victim, Mohd Tarmizi Shuib, 42, and his daughter, Fatin Nadhirah, are still strong even without news on the whereabouts of his son Mohd Haziq, 17, he said.

Haziq, 17, was at the Al Noor mosque with his father and younger brother when the shooting happened. He has been missing since the incident.

“They were still smiling and were willing to talk to me. Even though they are facing a tough time not knowing the whereabouts of Haziq,” he said.

Tarmizi is under observation and waiting for another operation.

Azrul also said Mohd Nazril Hisham Omar, 46, is still in shock over the attacks after having surgery yesterday.

Nazril is still being monitored after having an operation yesterday… to me, he looks like he is in trauma. I spoke to his wife and told her to give him strength. I left his bedside without talking to him,” he said.

Nazril was injured in the leg and back in the shooting.

Rahimi Ahmad, 39, who is from Bayan Lepas, had just come out of a surgery to remove bullet fragments.

“I was informed that Rahimi had just come back to the ward after the operation and I immediately phoned and informed his wife,” he said.

Azrul will head to Rahimi’s house to be with his family and attend prayers later in the day.

Rahimi, who works as a technician in a dairy factory, was praying at Masjid Al Noor on Deans Avenue when the shooting happened.

Across the city, another shooting took place in the mosque on Linwood Avenue. So far, 50 people were killed in the two shootings.

AFP reported that doctors are working around the clock to treat 36 victims for gunshot wounds and other injuries. Those injured also included children. – March 18, 2019.
