THE main fight during the 14th general election will be between Barisan National and Pakatan Harapan, while other  parties will be merely spoilers, Amanah president Mohammad Sabu said at the opening of the party’s Selangor convention today.

Mohammad, popularly known as Mat Sabu, said he was confident that other parties would not get support of the people.

“I am confident that (candidates of) my former party, PAS, will lose their deposits on the west coast of the peninsular.” .

After his speech, Mat Sabu told journalists that he based this prediction on his experience in PAS, when the Islamist party campaigned alone in Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Malacca.

“Most of us lost our deposits.

“We won only in areas where we campaigned with DAP and PKR, and earlier with Semangat 46,” said the former PAS vice-president.

He said when PAS campaigned alone, only its core supporters would vote for the party.

Mat Sabu also brushed aside the theory that BN would benefit the most in three-cornered fights.

“There are places where three-cornered fights will be in PH’s favour.

“The Malay votes are split, but the non-Malay votes are solidly behind PH.”

On PKR Selangor continued engagement with PAS, Mat Sabu said there was no problem.

“But the decision (on cooperating with PAS) will be (made) at PH meetings. I also meet Umno people at airports,” he said.

Amanah Selangor chief Izham Hashim said any discussions between PKR and PAS would not affect PH’s work.

“Our work continues. (Whether) this person comes or doesn’t come, does not make a difference,” added Izham. – September 10, 2017.
