THE Malaysian Communications Multimedia Commission has unblocked access to game distribution platform Steam, after its administrators removed the controversial game “Fight Of Gods”.

The commission urged the public to be careful and think before consuming online materials.

“The MCMC is committed to protecting the interests of users in Malaysia, and will not compromise with any parties that try to jeopardize the sanctity of religion and harmony between races in the nation,” it said in a Facebook post.

“MCMC would like to remind all users to be more careful and use their wisdom when choosing materials to be accessed.”

“Fights Of Gods” is a combat video game that features religious figures, and is distributed on the game platform Steam. The whole website was blocked yesterday by the MCMC to ensure “solidarity, harmony and well-being of the multiracial and multi-religious people in the country”.

“After the block on steampowered.com by MCMC, the game distribution platform had agreed with MCMC’s request to block Malaysians from downloading the video game ‘Fight of Gods’.

“As such, the block on the website steampowered.com will be lifted,” MCMC’s Facebook post said.

A description of the game posted on steampowered.com said: “Your prayers have been answered! For the first time ever, gods, holy spirits and mythological characters from around the globe and throughout history will clash in an explosive 2D fighter where the entire world is at stake!”.

The game was released on early access on September 4, and many gamers had praised the game’s absurdity.

It is understood that all games and products on Steam can be reported for defamatory, offensive, legal violation, harmful, fraud, broken, child exploitation, adult content, pornography and hate speech.
