PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad paid no heed to the new political pact between Umno and PAS, saying the two parties were free to “marry” each other.
“If they want to unite, they can unite. If they want to get married, go ahead and get married. We are a free country,” he said at the Parliament lobby today.
He, however, added that while Malaysia is a free country for political marriages, the same does not apply to same-sex marriages.
“(If) they (Umno and PAS) want to get married, it is okay.”
Umno and PAS made official their cooperation last Tuesday following a successful run in the past two Cameron Highlands and Semenyih by-elections.
Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan had described the alliance as a “marriage” between the two parties. – March 11, 2019.
