WHETHER Formula One returns to Malaysia depends on the government, said Petronas president and CEO Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.
“We last held the event 2017. I think there were long negotiations and discussions with the organisers,” he told the media in Kuala Lumpur today.
He declined to give a definitive answer when pressed by reporters.
The Sepang International Circuit hosted the last F1 Malaysian Grand Prix in 2017, with the first race held in 1999.
The government, which had bankrolled the Malaysian edition of the event since its inception, announced in April 2017 that it was no longer able to shell out US$67 million (RM283 million) a year for the race. – March 8, 2019.
