A STUDENT fainted and five more started vomiting after breathing in methane from a suspected chemical spill near Sg Kim Kim, Pasir Gudang, this morning.

“After a check detected methane in the atmosphere, we evacuated all those within a 500m radius of the gas leak. It involved some 1,400 students and teachers from SMK Taman Pasir Putih and SK Taman Pasir Putih,” said Zone 1 Fire and Rescue Department deputy chief Lokman Hakim Sulaiman in a statement.

He said the department received a report on the gas leak at 5.15am.

A press conference will be called soon to provide more details, he said.

The male student who fainted was taken to Sultan Ismail Hospital. – Bernama, March 7, 2019.
