MALAYSIAN police are still working with Chinese authorities to locate Penang billionaire Low Taek Jho, said Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

He said selected officers are still engaging with the Chinese authorities on the matter.

“Many say (Low) is in China, but we are not sure. But we are trying our best to locate Jho Low,” he said in a press conference in Bukit Aman today.

In January, Fuzi said the Royal Malaysia Police had met the authorities in China concerning their efforts to detect Low.

Without divulging details on the meeting, Fuzi said Low had not been found and efforts to detect him were still underway.

He also said the police is communicating with Interpol in its efforts.

Low, who was identified by investigators from Malaysia and the United States as the main character in the multi-billion 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal, was believed to have escaped from detention in Hong Kong to an island near Macau.

Fuzi said investigations into 1MDB are running smoothly, but said he could not reveal details of the process. – March 6, 2019.
