FORMER prime minister Najib Razak promised residents in Kampung Minang, Semenyih to bring his wife Rosmah Mansor to the village if Barisan Nasional won in the Semenyih by-election.
Najib said he could not bring his wife, who hailed from Minang, during his visit this time, because he was campaigning in the by-election.
“Tonight is very meaningful to me. I have managed to visit Kampung Minang – my homemaker is also from Minang. But tonight I did not bring her because of the election campaign,” he said during a ceramah at Kampung Minang last night.
“But if I win, I can bring her to this village. Can or not, ladies and gentleman?,” The villagers replied with cheers and said “can”.
Rosmah was portrayed in a negative light by the previous opposition leaders that led to various quarters, including Umno’s own leaders, feeling that she was a liability to Najib, which led to the defeat of Barisan Nasional in the last general election.
After the coalition’s defeat, Rosmah was rarely seen with Najib when he attended programmes with the community.
The ongoing Najib rebranding campaign with the slogan “Malu Apa Bossku” also does not include Rosmah.
According to Najib, the people are beginning to realise that what he and Barisan Nasional leaders had previously imposed were true after witnessing the failure of Pakatan Harapan to govern the country within nine months.
“Some people try to imitate me going to Giant but I see no one wants to take selfies with him. In the end, they could only make small-talk with the sellers.
“We are not forcing people. People came because they want to show that they accept what Barisan Nasional had said up to this point. During that time (GE14) they did not see the reasoning because of the formidable attacks. We were considered as being in the wrong,” he said. – February 24, 2019.
