FORMER prime minister Najib Razak has defended himself against critics who say he is too eager to take photographs with the public, saying he does so at their request.
“The people ask to take photos with me; I don’t force them. When I took the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) just now, many asked for selfies,” he said during a campaign stop in Semenyih today.
The Malaysian Insight had reported that many Semenyih voters felt that, instead of photo ops with the people for publicity, Najib should instead explain his role in the corruption scandals he has been linked to.
Najib, however, said it was not necessary for him to explain himself to voters here as he posts his explanations through social media, such as on his Facebook page.
“On the court cases, I have posted things online, but I cannot say much on them as the cases are still sub judice.”
Najib has been campaigning for Barisan Nasional’s Semenyih polls fight, and began today’s programme with a ride on the MRT from Sg Buloh to Kajang, where he stopped by the famous Haji Samuri satay eatery.
He then visited the Bandar Baru Bangi Tesco, where he was mobbed by shoppers requesting selfies.
The four candidates contesting the state seat next week are Pakatan Harapan’s Muhammad Aiman Zainali, BN’s Zakaria Hanafi, PSM’s Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul and independent Kuan Chee Heng. – February 23, 2019.
