PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he will wait and see if PAS leaders will support him as promised in the event of a vote of no-confidence against the prime minister.
“If there is a vote of no confidence then I will see if PAS will support me or not,” he said, after visiting the Defence Ministry in Jalan Padang Tembak, today.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said this week the party leaders had promised to support Dr Mahathir if there is a no-confidence vote against him in Parliament.
He said PAS’ position in such a situation was among the subject of discussion in PAS leaders’ closed-door meeting with Dr Mahathir last Friday.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim had declined to weigh in on the rumours of a plot brewing in PH to topple Dr Mahathir.
He said it is difficult to verify PAS’ claim as the leaders are allowed to lie to serve their own interests.
Anwar said the matter of a plot to oust the PM had not arisen in his communications with Dr Mahathir, who is also PH chairman.
Yesterday, banners appeared in several areas calling for Dr Mahathir to resign and make way for Anwar.
PKR information chief and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil said the banners were an act of malice.
“The banners are a premeditated and coordinated attempt to sow hatred and dissension within Pakatan Harapan,” he told The Malaysian Insight.
PH has filed a police report over the banners. – February 21, 2019.
