HOME Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has confirmed police investigations into a man who allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad on his Facebook account.

The home minister said investigation papers have been opened on the matter.

“The police are on the case. They are investigating the matter involving a man who allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad,” he said when asked by reporters in Putrajaya today.

Numerous police reports have been lodged by Muslim groups against a Facebook user by the profile name “Foo Sing Wai” after he posted a caricature depicting a naked Prophet Muhammad with a naked girl identified as six-year-old Aishah, the youngest of the Prophet’s wives.

Muhyiddin added that police have yet to question the man although the investigation paper has been opened.

“The IGP told me that the police have identified the man but have not recorded the man’s statement.

“Police have to act as there have been reports lodged against this person,” he said, urging the public to be sensitive when posting on social media.

“I urge the public to be more sensitive when it comes to racial and religious issues. Do not post up anything that could be deemed insulting to religion or the King.”

The post on the Prophet Muhammad and Aishah, two revered figures in Islam, have riled up many Muslims who have lodged reports with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

They said it was overboard and called for action to be taken against the Facebook user.

PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan also said such rude behaviour has become more frequent after Pakatan Harapan won the general election last year to form the federal government. – February 19, 2019.
