SABAH DAP will fully back Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal’s decision in response to Bersatu’s plans to enter the state, said its chief.

Stephen Wong said the state DAP opposes the peninsula-based party’s move to accept lawmakers who quit Umno.

“We are 100% behind Shafie on whatever decision he will make over Bersatu’s entry (into Sabah).

“If Bersatu enters Sabah, it will, in one way or another, affect Pakatan Harapan’s cooperation with Warisan.

“I’m not sure how Bersatu will work with us ruling parties (in the state),” he said at Sabah DAP’s Chinese New Year open house, held at Foo Chow Hall in Kota Kinabalu today.

Present were DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, Sabah DAP secretary and Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin, state DAP Women’s chief and Kapayan rep Jannie Lasimbang, and other assemblymen from the party.

It is believed that Bersatu is looking to take in former Sabah Umno leaders who quit the party on December 12 last year, led by ex-liaison chief Hajiji Mohd Noor.

The former Umno leaders, as well as Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah president Lajim Ukin, have called on Bersatu to set up shop in the state.

Wong said Warisan should be allowed to set straight Sabah affairs.

“I know Chief Minister Shafie is doing a good job. We know he is capable of handling Sabah issues.”

Lim reiterated that he will announce DAP’s stand on the Bersatu matter only after Shafie makes known his next move, adding that he will not meet the Warisan president during his Sabah visit.

Shafie is expected to issue a statement later today.

On Court of Appeal judge Hamid Sultan Abu Backer’s explosive allegations of widespread judicial misconduct, Lim said a royal commission of inquiry should be set up to look into the claims.

“There have been serious allegations (regarding) court cases involving individuals like the late Karpal Singh, Anwar Ibrahim and M. Indira Gandhi.

“It seems that there is a lack of integrity and independence in the country’s judiciary.”

An RCI will help restore the principle of separation of powers, he said. – February 17, 2019.
