PAKATAN Harapan has named local boy Mohd Aiman Zainali as its candidate for the Semenyih by-election.

The 30-year-old, who is Hulu Langat Bersatu treasurer and an electrical engineer, completed his undergraduate studies at University Teknologi Mara in Shah Alam. He is pursuing a PhD at the same university.

Aiman will battle it out with Barisan Nasional’s Zakaria Hanapi and Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul in the March 2 polls.

The by-election was called following the death of Bersatu’s Bakthiar Mohd Nor, who won the seat by nearly 9,000 votes in the 14th general election. He died of a heart attack on January 11.

Aiman, who is Bakhtiar’s son-in-law, called on voters to have faith in him, saying he will bring their issues to both the state and federal levels.

“Trust is different from faith. I am not asking you to believe in me, but I am asking you to have faith in me.

“I will do my best to act on behalf of the people of Semenyih. I will bring up your concerns at the state and federal levels,” he said at PH’s candidate-unveiling event.

Nomination will be held on Saturday, while early voting is scheduled for February 26. – February 14, 2019.
