AMANAH has called for a police investigation into Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz over a recording of him talking about PAS receiving funds from Umno, and his relationship with the US’ Central Intelligence Agency.

Youth vice-chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin said the Bachok MP must be investigated to determine the link between PAS leaders and the CIA.

He said the matter is serious, given that PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has admitted that the voice heard in the controversial recording is indeed Nik Abduh’s.

“What is the need for him to establish a relationship with the CIA when our country is already free?

“We urge the authorities to investigate if this is true, and what sort of information Nik Abduh has shared with the CIA,” said Shazni after lodging a report on the matter at the Dang Wangi police station today.

Two days ago, Takiyuddin confirmed that the voice in the recording is Nik Abduh’s, but said the audio clip was not published in full.

He said the public must listen to the complete recording to understand the context of Nik Abduh’s words.

In the recording, which made the rounds last year ahead of the 14th general election, Nik Abduh is heard saying PAS had accepted money from traditional foe Umno.

Yesterday, Nik Abduh took to Facebook to say he had wanted to come clean about the recording, but PAS leaders, including president Abdul Hadi Awang, told him to deny everything.

He said Hadi gave his blessing to issue a denial.

Previously, Nik Abduh repeatedly denied the recording, calling it “nonsense and slander”.

The issue resurfaced after Hadi settled his London suit against whistle-blower site Sarawak Report, which ran a story in 2016 alleging that PAS had taken RM90 million from Umno.

After the out-of-court settlement, a police report was lodged, leading the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate Sarawak Report’s claim.
