NO action will be taken against Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya over his dubious university qualifications, said the party’s president, Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin said he had met Marzuki and was satisfied with his explanation, despite critics accusing Marzuki of lying about his qualifications.

“He explained that he had never admitted to attending Cambridge University in the UK,” said Muhyiddin.

“People can spin but for me that is enough. That is done.

“Our principle is we don’t lie and he (Marzuki) has explained.”

Muhyiddin, who is also home minister, said there was no need to prolong this issue as he had met Marzuki and was satisfied with his explanation.

“People can say what they want. If they are not happy it is a different story.

“His position in the party remains and as for his cabinet post, the prime minister will have the final say,” Muhyiddin said after visiting the General Operations Forces (PGA) camp in Semenyih, Selangor, this afternoon.

Marzuki had said that it was not his intention to mislead the public about his academic qualifications.

The Deputy Foreign Minister said he had clearly stated that his qualifications came from Cambridge International University in the United States and not the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

“Anyone can alter a Wikipedia page. And I have never instructed or entered information about my education in the Wikipedia page,” Marzuki had said in a statement.

Marzuki came under fire after a Facebook user said the deputy minister did not graduate with a degree in Business Administration in Logistics from the UK university as it did not offer distance learning.

The Penang senator said he began his course at CIU in 2002 when he was the CEO of a logistics company in Penang.

He saidhe had not even considered the university’s accreditation.

“My sole intention was to obtain knowledge in my field. I had no idea I would be a member of the government’s administration today.

“I hope my clarification is sufficient to clear up the confusion. And with this, I will accept any decisions by the prime minister and my party leadership as to my positions as Bersatu secretary-general and deputy foreign minister.” – February 12, 2019.
