THE coroner’s inquest into the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim continued into its second day today with a visit to the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya, Selangor.
Coroner Rofiah Mohamad led the site visit as part of efforts to determine the cause of the 24-year-old’s death from injuries sustained during riots at the temple in November last year.
Adib and his team of emergency medical services (EMRS) personnel had responded to a distress call over the riot.
Adib died in hospital on December 17. It remains unclear whether he died from attacks by rioters or from being run over by an emergency services vehicle, as some quarters had alleged.
Rofiah arrived at the temple at 11.20am, accompanied by a deputy public prosecutor, lawyers representing Adib’s family, Fire and Rescue Department personnel and police officers.
They first visited Jalan Usaha across the temple where a fire truck, an EMRS van and a burning car had been located during the riots.
Traffic police also cordoned off the area from 9.30am.

Also present were three witnesses – IPD Subang Jaya Traffic chief ASP Mohd Nasir Rahman, who arrived at the scene earlier, and firemen Elliza Mohd Noor and Ahmad Shahril Othman, who testified yesterday.
At the inquest yesterday, Elliza, who had driven the fire truck on the night of the incident, said while reversing to escape an angry mob, he had hit something behind the truck, but did not know what it was.
Adib was found to be missing upon his teammates’ return to the fire station but it is not known when or why he had left his EMRS vehicle.
Rofiah and the team then visted the Subang Jaya SS17 Fire and Rescue Department station at noon.

The team spent almost an hour at the station, where what had transpired in the fire truck and EMRS van was re-enacted to the coroner.
The team was also shown a sliding door from the EMRS van that was severely damaged.
The inquest is expected to resume at 2.30pm at the Shah Alam High Court.
The inquest has been fixed for February 11 to 28; March 1, 4 and 5; March 19 to 29; and, April 1 to 12 by the Coroner’s Court in Shah Alam. – February 12, 2019.
