MALAYSIA stands on a higher moral ground on the issue of falsified degrees and diplomas, said Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

“I am personally and principally against using false degrees and diplomas.

“Whatever it is, from whichever side, Malaysia stands on a higher moral ground on that issue,” said the Bersatu Youth chief at a press conference in Semenyih.

Syed Saddiq said that the issue of Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya having a dubious degree will be left to the discretion of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

However, he said, he personally detested the use of falsified documents.

“My stance on the issue is that if it was a truly falsified document, I am against it according to principle, as anyone should be.

“I believe Marzuki’s explanation has been given. We have different versions of the story, and I think we will allow the prime minister his prerogative to decide on the matter,” he said.

Marzuki came under fire lately after a Facebook user said the deputy minister did not graduate with a degree in Business Administration in Logistics from the UK university as it did not offer distance learning.

He clarified that he graduated from Cambridge International University in the United States and said that he had no intention to mislead the public about his academic qualifications. – February 10, 2019.

  • If anyone possesses a dubious / Fake degree or diploma or any credentials, and uses the credentials for a successful post or position in any Federal or State government, GLCs, etc then he/she would be expected to resign his post (meaning on his own accord).
If there is suspicion that a person possesses a dubious /fake degree, diploma or any credential as part of his/her successful appointment to any position or post, job, etc, in the government/public sector, GLC, etc. and if doesnt resign on his own accord, a Disciplinary Board should be set up to investigate the issue. The disciplinary Board should comprise selected members of the Integrity Body/Commission, a member from the AG Chambers, and relevant members. They will then investigate the matter thoroughly and Recommend actions for the endorsement by the PM.
