DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang today dismissed a survey, which said 60% of Malay voters are unhappy with Pakatan Harapan, as failure to reflect the real situation in the country.
The Ilham Centre/Penang Institute survey reflects a disconnect on the ground since “not even 1% of non-Muslims believe that they are now in control of the government and that DAP is calling the shots in Putrajaya”, the Iskandar Puteri MP said in a statement.
The survey polled 2,614 Malay respondents, including Sabah and Sarawak, between October 24 and December 24 after PH took over in May 2018.
The government, the respondents said, is not serious about the “Malay agenda”, including upholding Malay rights and Islam as the official religion.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad also said only a small number of Malays are unhappy with PH.
If the Ilham Centre/Penang Institute survey is a correct reflection of the situation in the country, correspondingly non-Muslims should be supportive of PH since they are supposedly in control of the government, Lim said.
Instead, he said, if a poll is to be held today among non-Muslims, it will show an increase in dissatisfaction with DAP and PH because of their failure to live up to the hype of a change in government in the 14th general election.
In another survey last August, PH is said to have only secured 17% of Malay votes in GE14 and if the latest survey is correct, the pact has nearly doubled its support among the community to 40%, he said.
Regardless of the result, PH seeks to address the wellbeing of all Malaysians inclusive of race or religion, he said.
“It is important that Pakatan Harapan addresses the grievances and unhappiness of all Malaysians, whether Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans, Orang Ali – or Muslims and non-Muslims.” – February 2, 2019.
