THE Shah Alam High Court has postponed today’s civil suit hearing involving Altantuya Shaariibuu’s father, Shaariibuu Setev, due to a witness not being ready to give testimony.
Altantuya’s cousin, Namiraa Gerelmaa, was supposed to take the stand today but it was learnt that the Mongolian national had just arrived yesterday.
“Her witness statement is not yet ready,” a court official said.
The court will resume sitting tomorrow morning.
Altantuya’s father had filed a RM100 million suit against the Malaysian government and three others.
The suit, seeking damages and dependency claims, was filed in 2007.
In the statement of claim, it was stated that Altantuya’s death had caused her family mental shock and psychological trauma, which entitles them to exemplary and aggravated damages.
So far two witnesses have testified. Altantuya’s 69-year-old father Shaariibuu and another cousin, Burmaa Oyunchimeg, have both been examined by lawyers Ramkarpal Singh and Sangeet Kaur Deo since last week.
Burmaa last week said that she had seen a picture of the murdered Mongolian citizen with Abdul Razak Baginda and former prime minister Najib Razak in Paris.
The photograph showing Altantuya, Razak and Najib could not be published as it is still a disputed document.
Shaariibuu, meanwhile, told the court on Friday that his daughter had told him that she had to travel to Malaysia to meet a man named “Razak” who would help her with her son’s medical treatment.
He also said he discovered a paid flight ticket for his daughter in her handbag as well as a jewellery receipt amounting to RM11,300. – January 29, 2019.
