THE status of the controversial East Coast Rail Link project has grown more ambiguous still with the emergence of a letter suggesting that Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has cancelled the contract.
Former prime minister Najib Razak today posted on Facebook the allegedly official letter dated January 18from the Finance Ministry cancelling the project.
HE urged the Pakatan Harapan government to come clean on the matter.
“One moment they say it’s cancelled, the next moment they say it’s not cancelled. A moment later they say they’re not sure,” Najib wrote.
“But whose signature is it on the letter?
“if the project has indeed been cancelled, then just admit it.”
Just a few days ago, Lim had slapped down the Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali’s announcement that Putrajaya was cancelling the deal with contractor China Communications Construction Co Ltd to construct the RM81 billion rail link as the high interest for the loan was unaffordable. – January 28, 2019.
