VOTERS saw through Pakatan Harapan’s lies, said Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, attributing Barisan Nasional’s Cameron Highlands by-election win to this.
He said PH’s assertions that BN had failed to develop the parliamentary constituency are untrue.
“There are also a lot of other things that couldn’t be accepted by voters,” he said at SMK Sultan Ahmad Shah in Tanah Rata last night.
“We (BN) also got allocation to develop roads in Sinderut, Raub, Koyan and Tanah Rata.
“And, they said the state government’s debts are high, but that has been discussed with the federal government.”
BN’s Ramli Mohd Nor is Cameron Highlands’ new MP and Malaysia’s first Orang Asli lawmaker.
In the Election Commission’s final tally, Ramli polled 12,038 votes against main rival M. Manogaran of Pakatan Harapan, who got 8,800, giving the former a 3,238-vote majority.
Asked if BN’s victory could be credited to ex-prime minister Najib Razak, who actively campaigned for the former ruling coalition, Wan Rosdy said credit does not go to any single individual, but to BN, Umno and all those involved.
“Certainly, Najib contributed in this by-election, but the success is not to be credited to a single individual. It is to be credited to the entire team involved.”
He recognised the Islamist PAS’ decision not to field a candidate, and instead, support BN’s campaign efforts, as key to winning the polls.
“As a whole, I’d say it wasn’t a single factor, but many factors that contributed to our victory in this by-election.
“I can say PAS’ decision not to field a candidate, our hardworking machinery, all the false allegations against us, the facilities in Jelai and Tanah Rata, and many more, led to BN’s win.” – January 27, 2019.
