BARISAN Nasional has won back the trust of the people after losing four by-elections, Mohamad Hasan said today in celebrating its win in Cameron Highlands.

The acting Umno president said the party was estatic about the win and that it has boosted its members’ spirits, just in time to face the Semenyih by-election in March.

“I’m happy that Ramli Mohd Nor has been given the trust by Cameron Highlands’ voters.

“BN has managed to win the seat with a huge majority  and I am appreciative to the voters for giving BN this trust to serve in this area.

“This startegy will be repeated in Semenyih,” he said at SMK Sultan Ahmad Shah in Tanah Rata where the by-election results were announced.

Ramli is Cameron Highlands’ new MP, and Malaysia’s first Orang Asli lawmaker.

In the EC’s final tally, Ramli polled 12,038 votes, gaining a majority of 3,238 over his main rival, Pakatan Harapan’s M. Manogaran, who won 8,800 votes.

According to Malaysiakini, Mohamad also credited PAS with helping BN seal the Cameron Highlands win.

“The cooperation and help from PAS, especially, has clearly borne fruit in this by-election,” he said.

He added that BN will continue to serve the people and ensure that their needs are met.

“We believe the residents of Cameron Highlands will get good service from the menteri besar (Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail), who is also the BN Cameron Highlands chief.

“We found out about a lot of issues during campaigning and it will be given our attention. If we can, we will resolve them immediately.”

Mohamad also said that he will ensure that the BN representative serves the people well.

“Not only the Malays and Orang Asli, but all races because Ramli is a Parliament member representing all the people,” he said.

Ramli, meanwhile, said he was thankful to those who voted for BN and its party machinery.

“Firstly, I thank God, and thank the voters who voted for BN.

“(I thank) the BN, PAS, MIC and MCA machinery that helped me win this election. I promise I will work hard to serve the people of Cameron Highlands,” Ramli said. – January 26, 2019

  • HelloHello Mohamad Cameron Highland is Umno/BN Stronghold! So the logic of "Umno winning back the trust of people" does not hold water. On top PAS didn't contest. Thus BN has a higher majority by having PAS voters. Be more intelligent in your comments!
