PAS voters are the kingmakers in Cameron Highlands and should “repay” Barisan Nasional for its support in Pahang, said Liut assemblyman Mohd Sofian Abdul Jalil.

The PAS lawmaker said the Islamist party’s eight assemblymen won their seats at the 14^th general election, thanks to Umno supporters, and it is time to reciprocate this in Saturday’s election.

“We are the kingmakers and have the deciding vote on who wins, so vote for BN,” he said at a ceramah in Felda Sg Koyan 1 yesterday.

Sofian told the crowd of 300 that by voting for the BN candidate Ramli Mohd Nor, they are repaying the favour of Umno voters who voted the eight PAS assemblymen in Pahang. 

“For us as assemblymen, we got votes from Umno. That’s why we can sit here. I urge you to vote BN because they voted for us in during GE14, so we return the favour and vote for their candidate,” Sofian said while campaigning with other state colleagues, PAS central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz and Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Ismail.

“So remember, we repay the favour and vote for him. If we do not vote for BN, the Malays will be weak. So be loyal to what your president said on Saturday and vote Ramli.” 

He said the by-election also serves as a warning to Pakatan Harapan that the Malay-Muslim spirit remains strong despite BN’s loss at GE14.

“This is a warning to PH, as Malays and Muslims, we are not dead and we can take (Ramli) to Parliament.

“When we vote BN we are diluting PH’s power. By fielding Ramli, we are strengthening the Malay representation in Parliament.”

Ramli is facing a four-cornered fight against M. Manogaran (PH) and two independents – Wong Seng Yee and Salehuddin Ab Talib. – January 23, 2019.
