FORMER Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) staff left in the lurch after the agency’s disbandment last year are demanding that Transport Minister Anthony Loke make good on his promise of job placements.
One ex-employee, who spoke to The Malaysian Insight on condition of anonymity, said he has yet to receive word on a job offer.
The Malaysian Insight is seeking a response from the ministry on the status of the former SPAD staff.
Loke, on January 4, promised to resolve the plight of the retrenched employees and offer them new placements before January 15.
He said more than 300 former SPAD staff have been offered new postings in agencies under his ministry, and the Road Transport Department (RTD) has been tasked with finding places for another 300.
Some were taken in by SPAD’s successor, the Land Public Transport Agency.
The government’s decision to disband SPAD after the 14th general election affected more than 900 employees.

Another ex-employee suggested that the ministry appoint a third party to facilitate the job placement process.
He said a third-party agency would be more efficient than the ministry, and could facilitate complaints and feedback by the former staff.
“Our emails were not responded to, our phone calls never picked up.
“Where and who else can we go to?”
In the meantime, the Transport Ministry should look at other ministries in its efforts to offer placements, said another ex-employee.
“I understand that there are no vacancies (in the Transport Ministry), but with the skills that we have as enforcement agents, we can work in the Health Ministry, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, and other enforcement agencies.”
Sources said of the 961 former SPAD staff, 351 found placements in the first phase, while 470 are still waiting for theirs. Fifteen ex-employees refuse to be considered, while 25 said they are not interested in any offers. – January 21, 2019.

Best is for the remaining 470 former employees apply for jobs in the private sector also.. Today, its not easy getting jobs with thousands of graduates graduating from universities and willing to accept lesser paid jobs..
Ex-Spad staff better start applying to private sector and send resume to Labour Dept. The Transport Ministry can only do so much..
