Semenyih by-election on March 2

THE Semenyih by-election will take place on March 2, Election Commission chief Azhar Harun said today.

Nominations are on February 16 while early voting is on February 26. 

The Semenyih state fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman, Mohd Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, 57, last Friday of a heart attack. 

Bakhtiar defeated three other candidates by 8,964 votes at the 14th general election. 

Meanwhile, Azhar said today the by-election will use the third-quarter 2018 electoral roll, which has 54,503 voters, adding that the EC is targeting a 70% turnout.

The EC will also be adding one voting centre and 31 new streams to facilitate the high number of voters in the constituency. – January 18, 2019.
