UMNO Youth will focus on the Tanah Rata state seat in the Cameron Highlands by-election as Pakatan Harapan (PH) does not appear to be putting effort there, its chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said.

He said PH seems confident of winning in the polling districts in Tanah Rata where there are a higher number of Chinese and Indian voters.

“We have been here since day one and we will triple our efforts to win in this parliamentary seat.

“We will focus on Tanah Rata because there is a lack of activity here. Maybe DAP and PH are very confident in getting the non-Malay votes,” he told the press after an Umno Youth exco meeting at PWTC in Kuala Lumpur today.

In GE14, PH won more than 70% of votes in polling districts with majority Chinese and Indian voters.

But Asyraf said there are now other issues, such as unfulfilled promises by the new government, which Umno would use in campaigning for Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate.

“They (PH) forget there are many issues we can use with the Chinese and Indians, there are many unfulfilled promises,” he said.

“We will give our all for Tanah Rata in order for us to get the non-Malay votes. When we have their vote, then we can win Cameron Highlands.”

Asyraf also said former prime minister and BN chairman Najib Razak has the right to campaign in the by-election.

Najib will be in Cameron Highlands for three days from tomorrow to help with BN’s campaign. – January 16, 2019.
