No tsunami threat to Malaysia after 2 quakes

A STRONG earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale hit Vanuatu Islands at 2.06am today.

The Malaysian Meteorology Department said in a statement the epicentre of the quake was 13.3° south and 166.7° east and 304km from Lata in the Solomon Islands.

Meanwhile, a moderate earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale hit Mindanao in the Philippines at 4.03am today.

The epicentre of the quake was 171km southeast of  Davao.

However, both incidents posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia. – Bernama, January 16, 2019.
