MCA has urged the authorities to investigate Pakatan Harapan’s RM20 payment to volunteers to cover their travelling expenses on nomination day for the Cameron Highlands by-election.
Party president Wee Ka Siong said action must be taken despite DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang saying that PH is not involved in any vote-buying exercise, as claimed by Barisan Nasional and social media critics.
“Police reports have been lodged on the matter. Why is there no action? The person (who gave the money) should be investigated.
“PH should not use double standards. Because for BN, it’s different and PH it’s different,” he said after a meeting with the MCA Cameron Highlands grassroots yesterday.
An assistant to the Jelai PH operations chief, Arvind Bharet, said the images on social media actually showed volunteers being reimbursed for their expenses.
Lim said they are not afraid of the truth as no vote-buying is involved, referring to social media posts of money being handed out to people in PH-emblazoned T-shirts.
BN leaders have since lodged police reports on vote-buying.
Wee said if they are genuine volunteers, they shouldn’t be paid.
“The person who gave out the money must be investigated because this doesn’t make any sense.”
Wee said the Election Commission chairman has made it clear it has no power to investigate.
Meanwhile, the PH candidate M. Manogaran was accused of racism after saying that the Malays won’t buy kuih from the Orang Asli.
“He (Manogaran) is either saying the Orang Asli food is not clean or the Malays are looking down on the Orang Asli.
“How can he still contest as a candidate? It looks like PH is condoning his racist behaviour,” Wee said. – January 14, 2019.
