Bersatu supreme council duo, lawyer made chairmen of ministry entities

RURAL Development Minister Rina Harun has appointed two Bersatu supreme council members and a party lawyer as chairmen of ministry entities.

The Bersatu Women chief, in a statement, announced the appointments of supreme council members Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi and Dr Sukiman Sarmani as chair of Mara Corporation Sdn Bhd and Universiti Teknikal Mara (Unitek Mara), respectively.

Mara Corporation is an investment arm of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), while Unitek Mara is a Mara-owned private institution of higher learning.

Sukiman was previously deputy vice-chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, while Akhramsyah was an Umno Youth branch leader prior to quitting the party and joining Bersatu in 2016.

Lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, who has represented Bersatu chairman and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as well as the party, was made chairman of the Penang Regional Development Authority.

The post was previously held by Rural Development Ministry Secretary-General Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus.

Rina’s statement said the appointments were approved by Dr Mahathir, but it did not mention when they take effect. – January 5, 2019.
