Malay rulers hold rare unscheduled meeting, says report

THE Malay rulers had a rare unscheduled meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday night, reports the New Straits Times.

It said the rulers held a “serious” discussion on a matter regarding the monarchy.

“Yes, the meeting was held last night. A serious matter was discussed. We want to know where we are heading concerning this matter,” a source was quoted as saying yesterday.

The source declined to confirm whether Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V was present at the meeting.

“The others (rulers) were present. But you have to ask Istana Negara. I cannot tell you (whether the Agong was present).”

Social media has been abuzz with speculation that the Malay rulers are unhappy about Sultan Muhammad V allegedly getting married to a former Russian beauty queen in Moscow during his two-month medical leave till December 31.

There has been no official confirmation or denial of the marriage.

When the king was on leave, Deputy Agong Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah served as acting Agong.

NST said it is rare for the Malay rulers to hold unofficial meetings.

“Such meetings are usually held once or twice a term, and normally, they are to discuss something important. There was no such meeting last year.” – January 4, 2019.

  • Having a normal meeting once a year is a rarity, now they are having a double rare meeting !! Unless its a who will take the biggest price meeting, they are going to be unhappy I think. Well are we in a crisis without a king or sultan, i seriously doubt it. Maybe its just for the big price then ? Did the Russian refuse to become a Muslim? Will they keep paying him with the rakyats money if he abdicates ? Shouldnt that the real question.

  • How much does it cost to organise each of such meetings... Are the figures confidential?
