THE Perlis Islamic Affairs Department has fired 25 imam, while another 10 have been transferred to different parishes as of January 1, BH Online reports.
The report said the imam were not given clear reasons for their termination and transfers, and were only informed of the decision in a letter dated December 31.
Quoting a source, the Malay-language portal reported that the action taken against the Muslim leaders was allegedly because they were deemed “not complying with practices” of the state religious department.
Following their transfers and termination, several mosque committee members have tendered their resignations in protest, it said.
The Malaysian Insight is attempting to contact the state exco Ruzaini Rais, the Perlis religious department and Perlis Mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainal Abidin for confirmation of the sackings and transfers. – January 3, 2019.
