Chin Tong sues Malay rights leader for RM20 million

LIEW Chin Tong is suing Malay rights leader Azwanddin Hamzah for RM20 million over two defamatory articles linking the deputy defence minister to communists.

The Jaringan Melayu Malaysia leader posted two articles on Facebook and the JMM website, said DAP legal bureau chairman Ram Karpal Singh.

The Facebook account on October 30 carried the caption “Hari ini dengan sengaja timbalan menteri pertahanan berpakaian seragam komunis di hadapan tentera melayu ini sikap kurang ajar” (Today, the deputy defence minister purposely shows up in a communist uniform in front of Malay soldiers. This is disrespectful).

The other article “Kementerian pertahanan kini berada dalam tekanan dan ancaman” (Defence Ministry now faces pressure and threat) was uploaded on November 19.

Both articles linked Liew and DAP to communists and insinuated that Liew is obtaining top secret material to compromise national security.

The suit was filed on Thursday in the Kuala Lumpur High Court and is fixed for case management on January 29.

Liew is claiming from Azwanddin general and exemplary damages to the tune of RM20 million and an injunction restraining him from further publishing similar articles in the future. – December 31, 2018.
