PAS cannot be serious about wanting to beat Barisan Nasional in Selangor if it is going after seats held by the opposition in the state, said PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
“Do they really want to topple BN? If they go after the seats then they are not serious,” she said after attending a forum on “Impact of Chinese investments in Malaysia” in Kuala Lumpur last night.
PAS has announced that it will contest 42 out of 56 state seats in Selangor.
This means Dr Wan Azizah, who won the Kajang seat in the by-election in 2014, will have to defend it against PAS, while Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is the Gombak MP, will also be facing PAS in the next general election.
The Selangor government is made up of 29 Pakatan Harapan legislators and 13 PAS representatives. BN legislators and two independent assemblymen hold 11 seats.
Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi said the Islamist party was ready for a three-cornered fight in the coming general election and was prepared to field candidates in the seats held by Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Harapan.
“It is not PAS who is starting the three-cornered fight but DAP and Amanah, who have made statements that they want to contest PAS seats.
“Selangor DAP chairman Tony Pua made a statement on October 30, 2015, that they will field candidates in PAS areas.
“Amanah made a statement that they will contest in all PAS seats in December, 31 2016,” said Sallehan in a statement.
Sallehen said it was only fair that PAS rose to the challenge.
“Based on what our data and facts tell us, we want to stress that we are ready to field our candidates in 42 seats,” he said. – August 25, 2017.
